STUDYING WHEELS FOR HEAVY RIDERS
Researching What Actually Works for Large Cyclists
Why do factory wheels fail heavy riders? What spoke count actually matters? How does tension affect durability? I’m learning wheelbuilding and documenting my research—testing theories, building wheels, and sharing real results.
Why I’m Learning Wheelbuilding
STRENGTH
Real Weight, Real Engineering
I’m teaching myself to calculate spoke tension for the loads people actually carry—not the mythical average rider. My wheels hold me at 320 lbs. I’m learning what makes that possible so I can eventually help other riders who face the same problems.
DURABILITY
Long-Term Reliability
I got tired of wheels that needed constant attention. I’m studying what makes wheels last: high tension, proper spoke counts, and quality rims. Not just wheels that work today, but wheels that work next year too.
EMPOWERMENT
No Weight Limits, No Excuses
I’m 320 lbs and I race triathlons. I refuse to accept “you’re too heavy” as an answer. I’m learning to build wheels that work for riders of all sizes—because everyone deserves equipment that doesn’t quit on them.
Learn What Makes Strong Wheels
Understand why spoke count, rim choice, and proper tension matter more than weight limits.
What I’m Learning
Real experiences building wheels, riding as a 320 lb triathlete, and figuring out what actually works for heavier riders.
